Trail to Red Peak Pass - morning of Day 3
By climbing to Upper Ottoway the day before the climb to Red Peak pass was short and relatively easy
Typical High Sierra terrain and views - I love it up here!
Looking back toward Upper Ottoway Lake from the trail to Red Peak Pass

Upper Ottoway Lake(s) and the trail far below
View from Red Peak Pass
Mt Florence, and Mclure, Lyell, Rodgers peaks
Banner, Ritter, and the Minarets peak out around the corner from the pass
These peaks are so recognizable from the east, it was fun to see them from this different western perspective
Zoom in on Banner(left) and Ritter (middle) and Minarets (jagged stuff on right)
Mclure, Lyell, and Rodgers peaks as viewed from Red Peak Pass
Steve at Red Peak Pass
It was really busy up here - a trail crew had climbed up from the other side and arrived at the same time as us.
Views from Red Peak Pass
The rest of today's hike would take us through the head waters of the Merced River
Packs Piled up at Red Peak Pass
Looking back up at Red Peak pass a we descend
Tarn below the passs
Wish I could have gotten a better perspecitve on these - they were about 8 feet tall!
Meadow and Paintbrush
Thankfully this beautiful basin was devoid of mosquitoes
A pretty turquoise lake below Red Peak pass
I didn't take pictures for the rest of the day's hike since just below this lake the bugs came out again.
We camped just below Isberg Peak at a lake that was perfect for swimming.
Dave in camp
I really liked this spot - until the mosquitoes came out before sunset
The warm perfect swimming lake.
Clear water, but shallow enough that it has already warmed up to a comfortable temperature
The upper of the two lakes below Isberg Peak
Post Peak Pass - next morning's destination
Triple Divide Peak (center of photo)
The loop that we hiked over the five days essentially circled this peak
Camp from above
Hey, is Dave letting mosquitoes in the tent???
Sunset over the Clark Range
Red Peak, Gray Peak, and Mt Clark
Sunset glow and glaciers
View toward Isberg and Post Peak Passes at sunset
Alpenglow on Isberg Peak
Florence, Mclure, Lyell
Morning of Day four - view toward Triple Divide Peak
The Clark Range - Red Peak, Gray peak, and Mt Clark
Looking down from the climb to Post Peak Pass
We camped at the smaller lake on the left - the best swimming lake I've found in the high sierra! (as of that date, anyways)
Yosemite Boundary Benchmark
We spent most of today just outside of the park boundary in Ansel Adams Wilderness
Post Peak is an interesting pass - the last 1/4 mile is along a ridge with stunning views!
The meadow where we camped, and the Clark Range that we came over yesterday
The view of Banner/Ritter/Minarets from the Pass ridge is breathtaking!
Next month I'll be hiking by these peaks on the other side when I am on the JMT
Banner, Ritter, Minarets and other peaks (need to check the maps!)
All of the peaks that are so recognizable from the east look completely different from this direction!
The High Sierra
My favorite place to be
The view from this pass was great!
