I parked at the water trough about 1 mile in along Skull Hollow road and hiked in from the gate.
The snow has melted out, and a few puddles remain.
First peek at the summit of Gray Butte from my approach.
Some cool rocks back here, but nothing like Smith Rock
The map shows several forks in the road, but the main route to the summit is obvious.
It is here that a pair of equestrians ride by and remind me that there are mountain lions here. Thanks.
It's so green! This area will be hot and dry in the summer so I am enjoying it.
If I followed that road I think I'd eventually connect to Smith Rock.
YAY WILDFLOWERS ARE BLOOMING! I believe this is a sagebrush buttercup.
Looking back towards Smith Rock
View to the Southeast. Clouds are blocking a bit but it's still nice. z
Much closer now! Summit is ahead.
Hit the ridge and the wind was whipping.
More wildflowers!! Filaree?
Little rain squalls keep coming through but the view is still nice.
Final approach to the summit. Then it started raining so I stopped taking pictures.
On the return hike I decide to detour on the Cole Loop trail.
Final view across to Smith Rock in the rain.
Along the Cole loop trail - it was nice to get off of road.
