Group photo at the cabin
For the second year in a row Robin saves the day. Last year it was her patch kit on a flat tire, this year it was a jump on a dead battery. Right on!
Off to hike Sidewinder canyon, near Badwater in death Valley
Kind of boring and normal at the beginning, walking up this rocky alluvial fan to the mouth of the canyon
Heading up towards the canyon. Lineup of cars in the background.
The canyon has a wide and kind of boring mouth
Before long you start finding all kinds of side canyons full of mud conglomerate rocks
Some of these side canyons get really dark
At the end of the first side canyon. Dead ends at a really tall dryfall.
This photo shows how the main canyon can be hot while the side canyons can be nice and cool.
Looking back down the main canyon
The rock was a lot more solid than in looked, allowing us to scramble up some sketchy looking spots.
All the embedded rocks made for great hand and footholds
Sooz climbs up one of the walls
Here comes paige
There is another slot canyon through that jumble of rocks. This one is great!
Robin, uh, makes the squeeze.
Heading into the dark...
I actually had to pull out my headlamp in this slot.
At the end...
