Scattered Bone and Jurassic Peaks are the two high points on Haiwee Ridge. Scattered Bone is a really short and easy walk up. Jurassic is a class 2 scrambly fun peak that doesn't involve much distance. We did both in a couple of hours.
Jurassic Peak view from the top of Scattered Bone
Haiwee Reservoir, highway 395, and the southern Sierra.
Yes there are bones on scattered bone peak
Summit of scatted bone. Rather humdrum. Couldn't find a summit register
David on the way down Scattered bone, Jurassic behind us. It was cold and windy.
Looking down on Cactus Flat
Back at the truck (parked on the saddle between the two peaks. Resupply and then on to the fun peak.
Southern Sierra and distinct snow line
It was really muddy up here. Glad for good tires and 4wd.
Starting up Jurassic
Starts off easy then it turns into lots of this. Always able to find a class 1-2 route, but sometimes it took a bit of investigating.
We worked our way up to the ridge via the east side, but once on the ridge we tended to find ways around obstacles on the west side.
On the summit. Summit block was kinda sorta maybe class 3? It was the hardest part for my short legs since there really weren't any alternate routes.
Dave's Cave! We found this cool cave on the way up and down - the best route went right through it.
See the white dot in the middle? That's the truck. The high point behind and to the left of it is Scattered Bone Peak
Done! A two summit afternoon.
