Driving in on Friday evening I just caught the orange sunset light on Half Dome
El Capitan from the Valley floor.
This weekend was a big celebration in the Valley for the 50th anniversary of the first ascent of the Nose.
Steve, Paige, and Paul at Curry Village after dinner.
David and Greg got in late Friday night. On Saturday morning we caught the shuttle to Camp 4 where we took off along the trail to upper Yosemite Falls.
We're heading to the top of the falls, then on to Yosemite Point.
Mt Clark in the distance
Half Dome view from the falls trail.
First view of the falls - this is the bottom of the upper falls. Yosemite Falls has three levels - upper, middle, and lower.
Upper Yosemite Falls and Yosemite Point (to the right)
Bottom of upper falls. In the winter the mist forms a cone of snow here.
Upper Falls and Lost Arrow Spire (right of picture, spire of rock)
Better angle of Lost Arrow. Yosemite Point on the right.
Typical trail - it was raining on the hike down and this stuff is really slick.
Paige doing what paige does best.
Half Dome, Mt Starr King, and Glacier Point
Heading up the last set of switchbacks on our ~2800 foot climb
Paige matches the color in the rock.
Rain is coming
A narrow steep set of stairs leads to the viewpoint over the Upper Falls
Cascades above the falls
Paige sets up a shot
Looking down on the upper falls (and valley buildings ~3000 feet below!)
The Valley with the Merced River
View towards Glacier Point and Mt Starr King
The trail we came in on, far below us.
The gnarliest part of the last few steps to the viewpoint. You don't want to look down the right side of these steps.
It's starting to look more like rain.
A raven checks us out, and quickly realizes we're not going to give him a cookie.
David fills his water bottle.
Next we headed up another few hundred feet to Yosemite Point. We can see the switchbacking trail from here (in the green on the left), and the tip of Lost Arrow Spire below us (dead center of photo)
Zoom in on climbing equipment on the Spire. Slacklining is popular here.
Another look down on the trail and the valley from Yosemite Point.
The Clark Range and Mt Starr King
Paige and Half Dome
David, Paul, and Steve hang out at Yosemite Point.
