We hiked out of Sawmill Campground, right around treeline.
Good trail to follow through here. We're heading towards the ridge straight ahead. We'll follow one of the chutes between the rocky teeth along the low point.
Beautiful alpine meadow along this stretch.
Trail is fading, but the route is clear.
This route is a nice and gentle climb for a few miles. I'm staring at the wall in front of us, wondering which way we'll go. David has been up Conness a few times so I'm mostly just following along (for now...)
We'll go around that foreground ramp and follow it towards the ridge to a low point (hidden from view in this shot)
Looking back the way we came. Tioga Peak standing out.
The view in front of us. David keeps talking about an easy 'ramp' to the top. I'm not seeing it. He can't remember where it is.
Ah HA. We get around that little ridge and see this to our left. It's a nice looking path and it looks like it goes all the way to the top using any one of several chutes.
Looking the other way, things don't look as passable.
Talus hopping. Wheee.
Looking back down to where we left the nice green meadows. Nice snow field - too bad we didn't come down this way. Would have been fun.
Finally gaining some elevation.
David checks out the route. We'll head up between the teeth. Can't remember which one from this picture. But we ran into a guy coming down from another chute and it was fine as well - I think you can go up between most of them and stay on class 2 terrain.
Almost to the top. Sandy and steep for the final 100 feet or so.
Checking out the rest of the area through here - it's all good.
View towards White Mountain
Looking north along the ridge towards Conness. The summit is not in sight - it hasn't been visible yet.
