Mt Whitney finally appears on the mileage signs - we're getting close!
More Zaca fire smoke obstructs this views this morning
This is looking back towards Forester Pass

The terrain and plant life are a bit different here in the Southern Sierra

With windswept trees

First good view of the west side of Whitney Ridge
We're heading up into the basin in the center right.

Ridge of Mt Hale
We spent the afternoon trying to pick out the trail to figure out where we'll be heading tomorrow
Camp is in the rocks next to the lake on the left
Sunset colors finally start
We wanted to get to bed early, but I had to stay up for sunset
Again, the smoke in the air helped with sunset colors
Guitar Lake and Kaweah Divide. Smoke made the sunset look like a watercolor painting.
Our view of the back side of whitney - the summit isn't visible from here.
