I love this sign at the Onion Valley trailhead
As we start to climb towards Kearsarge Pass we get a view of the road into Onion Valley
Just out of sight is the burned area from the fires earlier this summer
There is still a lot of smoke in the air today
Along with clouds, but luckily it never rained.
Dave on the trail - this is his Day 1.
This is one of my favorite trails - I love the views climbing to Kearsarge Pass
Typical southern sierra trail

Dave checks out Heart Lake
Heart Lake, far below us.

The ridge and rocks behind us
Trail engineering - switchbacks up the cliff
There is the pass!
Big Pothole Lake
Dave on the trail with the teeeeeny tiny people at the pass in the distance
Big Pothole Lake and University Peak in the background
The ridge that runs South of Kearsarge pass
See the people at the pass?
It was much easier this time!

East Vidette Peak
Back on the John Muir Trail! Yaaay!
We'll camp down there and hike up the valley tomorrow morning.
The trail forks to the right of the peak at the end and then climbs to Forester Pass
Dave heads down into Vidette Meadow
