Today's hike and Profile
We rolled in late the night before and our reserved site was waiting for us. I really liked this spot - mostly backpackers getting off of or getting on the trail. No room for RVs and trailers!
Looking out at the Onion Valley Trailhead Parking from the campsite
Wildflowers at Onion Valley (the white ones are Ranger's Buttons)
Fireweed at the trailhead
Waterfall behind the campground - view toward Independence Peak.
I spent the morning playing around with my camera while Paige went to get our trail permits and shuttle the car.
That's the trail - I'm itching to get on it!
Onion Valley Trailhead sign.
Kearsarge Pass - let's go!
The packs all loaded up for a week in the High Sierra.
Waterfalls everywhere - this would be a theme throughout the week.
Paige, John, and Taylor before starting off on the climb to the Pass.
Finally we're hiking!
Looking back at the parking lot from the first switchback (50 ft down!)
Looking back at the trail toward Golden Trout Lake
Entering the John Muir Wilderness
As we climb more peaks come into view.
Looking back toward the Owen's Valley.
Waterfall draining into Little Pothole Lake, our snack stop.
The terrain changes suddenly as the trail passes through a rock field.
Looking down on Heart Lake as we approach the pass.
We finally see the pass!
Can you pick out the itty bitty people on Kearsarge Pass?
The ridge that extends south from Kearsarge Pass.
A pack train passed through as we sat on the Pass to rest.
And now we're in King's Canyon National Park
that was a short visit to the John Muir wilderness!
View toward Kearsarge Lakes and Kearsarge Pinnacles from Kearsarge Pass.
Kearsarge Pinnacles with Vidette Peaks (?) behind.
Our campsite near Kearsarge Lakes (Kearsarge Pinnacles are the peaks).
Looking east (back the way we came) toward Kearsage Pass from our campsite
Campsite and Pinnacles.
Sunset begins on the pinnacles
And back over Kearsarge Pass.
And over University Peak.
The moon rises over University Peak, the end of a first successful day!
