Morning reflection at Moraine Lake
Home sweet home
Greg and Paige study the map. We're not going far today - a half day down to Kern Hot Spring so that we can spend the afternoon relaxing at the spring and fishing.
Funston Cabin (googling it I found an old 1927 photo of the same cabin and it was already in disrepair then - don't know how old it is)
Sky Parlor/Upper Funston meadow and Mt Kaweah
This little bird was so cute - he was following us, begging for a treat like a squirrel would. We wouldn't give him anything, but it wasn't for lack of effort on his part.
We reach the top of the trail down into Kern Canyon. Looks like a fire somewhere to the south - luckily we're heading up the opposite direction.
About halfway down we can see the Kern River snaking its way through the canyon.
Funston Meadow gate.
Bridge over the River Kern
Nice river, too.
Kern River Hot Spring
A bit mucky. Water flowing in stays at a constant 104 degrees (or was it 107?). It drains into a lower (big) tub on the edge of the river that's perfect for a few people to soak in.
Kern Hot Spring and Canyon
View from the Hot Spring. Feels a bit like what Hetch Hetchy might be if it hadn't been turned into a reservoir.
Camp - another nice one.
I love how they engineered this bridge.

A bit of Gin Rummy to entertain us.
