Thor has had a big weekend.
Driving the Laurel Lakes road. Gnarly 4x4.
Part of the shelf road into Laurel Lakes. We parked the trucks at a pullout and then walked back to the trailhead to climb Bloody Mountain.
Looking down on the lower Laurel Lake from the shelf road.
The 4x4 road into Laurel Lakes. There is an old mine on the side of Bloody and people still drive this old road into the Lakes.
Starting up the trail - an old wilderness boundary sign.
Laurel Pass ahead.
Looking back on the trail
Our route up bloody - just follow the ridge. The highpoint on the right is not the summit - it's out of view. The point is at about 12k, 500 ft below the summit.
Mostly loose rubble. Whee.
Another look at the ridge. There was a use trail most of the way.
The peak across the way with the big plateau looks interesting. Lost World Peak.
Laurel towers above the pass. We climbed that one a few years ago but had to bail on Bloody due to thunderstorms. Finally righting that unfinished business today!
Looking down a chute on Bloody, with the Laurel Lakes road in the distance.
Lakes Genevieve and Edith
Red Slate Mountain
Some of the use trail up Bloody
Bloody Mtn ridge and Laurel in the distance.
At the 12k point, now we can see the summit. It's the high point to the left of the couloir.
Laurel Lake below, Lost World Peak across the way. Beyond Banner and Ritter in the distance we could see smoke from the fire in Yosemite.
Lake Edith and a peek at Cloverleaf and Constance Lakes.
Along the final stretch of the ridge.
Smoke in the distance from the fires in Yosemite
A single patch of polemonium (sky pilot) on Bloody
Franklin Lake and Lake Virginia
Summit of Bloody. Woo!
You can really see the smoke from the fires now.
Looking down on Laurel Lake and the road we drove in. Mono Lake in the distance.
Baldwin! One of my favorite climbs.
Robin on the summit
