A couple of final shots from our campsite. Hard to beat these kind of views. That chute doesn't look so bad anymore.
View from camp at Big Bear Lake.
Ursa Lake, We're on our way up to Feather Pass, following the sierra high route for the day.
Bear Paw lake and Feather Peak. The Pass is not yet in sight - it's behind the ridge on the right.
Bear Paw Lake. The easiest way up feather pass is to hike along the inlet creek so we're heading over to that sandy section.
Looking back along Bear Paw Lake - still seeing Seven Gables!
Gordon and Sooz working their way along Bear Paw
At the inlet to Bear Paw Lake. Really easy going for now!
And we can finally see Feather Pass.
Heading towards Feather Pass
Looking back on Bear Paw.
A little bit of talus hopping but if you follow the path of the green it isn't too bad at all.
The clouds started early this morning - we are glad to be getting over the pass first thing in the day.
Feather Peak above us.
Feather Pass. After getting out of the green it's a pretty nice slabby walk towards the pass.
Below Feather Pass
This was a nice and easy approach, but now we're starting to eye the wall and figure out the best route up.
Basically, we just crossed the suncupped snow and popped out on the other side. From there, it was some scrambling and finding the best ramps. Piece of cake. :)
Looking back down on the snowfield on the north side of Feather Pass. Sun cuppy.
Feather Pass is right there. Not sure if I chose the best route but I got there. Lots of options.
Sooz making her way up the final part of the pass.
Gordon is dancing at the pass. Or something.
Feather Peak from Feather Pass. Not today.
Royce Peak from feather pass. Our next destination, but not for today, we'll do it tomorrow morning.
Sooz at Feather Pass
Descending - again, a nice easy slope with some slabs.
LaSalle Lake comes into view.
Descending the pass.
Royce Peak. We'll follow that nice slope to the summit plateau when we climb it tomorrow.
LaSalle Lake. Right after this the descent steepens and a bit of thinking is needed to get down the inlet into LaSalle.
Wind is picking up. Looks like the clouds are preparing to build into storms.
Getting around a snow field near LaSalle
View towards Feather Pass (in the sun on the left) and Royce peak (in the shadow on the right)
We settled in to camp in the lakes between Merriam and LaSalle after a nice half-day hike. After getting all hunkered down I wandered off with my fishing pole to pass the time until the storms hit. Caught over 60 golden trout in two hours!
