At the entry of the canyon of petroglyphs in the Rodman Mtns. Already a lot of rock art in sight!
We're on our way to the Surprise Tank
Is that a mug of beer??!
Cool snakey pattern around the edge of this rock.
Most of the images here are abstract, but according to several rock art books a lot of them have 'water' meanings.
Even more recent 'artists' have noted the water in the area.
One of my favorites. No idea what it means.
Thor wonders what's up the canyon!
Wider shot showing the density of the petroglyphs.
We're next to surprise tank now, a place where water pools here in the desert.
Rocks near surprise tank.
Looking down canyon from the top of Surprise Tank. The tank was dry today.
Surprise Tank. You can see the caked dry mud.
I found a couple of sheep glyphs here among the abstract ones too.
Thor rests in the share while we explore around the rocks.
The one human figure I found.
Lizard or tortoise?
Wide shot of the surprise tank canyon.
Where are we going next? Asks Thor.
We're hiking Ord Mountain. We followed a steep road up to a gate where we left the truck. There is still a lot of mining going on in these mountains.
Looking back on the truck. It's road all the way to the summit but the gate means it's on-foot time.
Climbing up Ord.
View of the Rodman Mtns wilderness from the road up Ord.
Steady grade up the mountain.
Is that for me?
Summit of Ord up ahead.
Thor on the summit!
Helicopter pad on the summit.
Tried these Halfpops on this hike - they're like a hybrid popcorn and cornnut. Really yummy!
