November 18, 2012: After camping at the head of Caruthers Canyon the night before, we hiked up to the canyon to the Giant Ledge mine, then up a ravine to one of the two high points of the range. Afterwards we had a bit of time so we wandered up Keystone Canyon to the ruins of an old mine.

We drove to the end of the drivable section of road in Caruthers and tucked the tundra into its cozy parking spot.

This sign is where we stopped, but the road keeps going in a 4x4 jeep track. We probably could have driven a little further but it's a nice and short walk - no reason to bust the truck.

Walking along the road bed. Jeep tracks even with foot tracks through here. As we walked further it became a much higher ratio of feet to tires.

Really fun scrambly rock can be found through this canyon. You could probably spend a week playing around in this stuff.

After we walk up the canyon a short ways we'll turn up a ravine and aim for the summit pile. It's one of those up there but at this point we're not sure which one is the correct pile.

Now, having done it, I'm pretty sure the red arrow is pointing at the proper summit pile of New York Two (the higher of the two summit points). New York One is hiding behind it. The yellow arrow points at an impressive stack of rocks that we passed on our way to the summit. The green line is our very approximate line up the ravine.

But for now we're still in the botton of the canyon.
