We left camp at about 6 am - big day ahead of us!
We're climbing to the rim on the bright angel and then driving to Las Vegas today
Water line break
There were four breaks in the line this week - they were slowly getting repaired. We had to get out before 8 am since they were closing this stretch of trail to work on the break.
Filled in fireplace at the PipeCreek resthouse

A trickling waterfall
The bright angel trail climbs pretty gently to Indian Gardens along the creek (with a few switchbacks). I really liked this early morning stretch of hiking.
Here comes the sun
By starting early we avoided the sun for almost the whole hike up

The Bright Angel Trail
Leaving Indian Gardens ~ 8:15 am.
We stopped here for about a 15 minute snack and water refill.
The bright angel trail switchbacks up that steep ravine in the middle of the photo
Most of the climb is done between Indian Gardens and the Rim
As I reach 3 mi resthouse I start to see the warning signs for the casual dayhikers
Looking back down towards Plateau Point and Indian Gardens
Similar view, but now from a bit higher up
I'm just below the rim now and running into a lot of dayhikers who are very frightened of the 'ice'
It's so dirt and mule-crap covered I barely notice it
Made it! 10:45 am.
On the rim once again. It's colder up here than it was at 5 am at the bottom.
11 am in the Bright Angel Lodge.
We enjoy our celebratory beers and bloody marys before having lunch in the restaurant
Mmm...a pile of goodness.
This photo shows most of where we've been this week
Bright Angel creek is the canyon on the left and Clear Creek is the canyon on the right. Zoroaster is between them.
Packing up the durango for the drive to vegas.
Elk just before the entrance station.
We stayed at the Circus Circus
Spring break limited our choices!
Nice to stay here before it's demolished though
We went up to downtown for dinner
Everyone is watching the giant Fremont Street screen
~~~you want to gamble...oooooh~~~~~
More beer (this group really likes their beer)
Our happy but exhausted group at ~1 am
